Review: The Sleepy Hollow Experience

Down a dirt road path, seemingly in the middle of no where, rests a playhouse where immersive theatre meets a stunning outdoor exterior to create a must-see theatre experience. For haunt enthusiasts who are seaching for variety this Halloween season, Serenbe Playhouse offers a remarkable re-telling of a famous legend with “The Sleepy Hollow Experience.” A new adaptation created by Brian Clowdus, portrays the haunting tale of the Headless Horseman,  Ichabod Crane and the legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Upon your arrival to the The Horseman’s Meadow just as one begins to question whether the long and winding path leads the way, an eerie and delightful surprise greets guests allowing you to know you’re headed in the right direction. Our team was eager to see the sights and sounds of Serenbe and we were astonished by what we encountered. Not only are you greeted by a crew complete with quick witted responses should your entourage not heed to their directions, but as you enter the grounds your eyes are treated to some spectacular sets.

There are portable bathrooms available as you depart your vehicles and we strongly encourage guests to visit these prior to walking down to enjoy the show. Once the gates open guests are able to explore the area, enjoy the fall festival on the grounds, and treat yourself to some tasty snacks and libations (the bar accepts credit cards too – huzzah!) We took a moment to capture a few selfies as there are a plethora of photo opportunities available and took a moment to take in the gorgeous sights. It’s truly a remarkable set and if timed just right you might be able to catch some stellar photos.

Across the bridge, underneath a series of gorgeous vintage portraits,  a soft melody enchants the ears as a hush falls amongst those waiting.  The beginning of the show was a bit hard to hear and took our group a moment to become fully invested but once we did, we could not look away! The actors all gave a phenomenal performance, were delightful to chat with during intermission (make sure to get your group photos), and provided a stellar experience. Each of the actors provide a charming musical component and magnetically draw you into their world with their incredible talent. The costumes were stunning and the set design is a feast for the eyes! The story was riveting as we yearned to hear and see more.

Our detailed review will end here as we do not want to spoil the incredible production we were able to witness. The grand finale was far beyond anything we could have imagined and the unveiling of the Headless horseman was brilliant and delivered an immersive experience for every single guest.

A few tips for those venturing to Serenbe this fall: follow the green signs (trust us), wear closed toed shoes, grab a hot apple cider during intermission, enjoy the festive fall games, and be sure to visit with and capture a group photo with the cast. Be aware that a few of the scenes have access to chairs, however seating is very sparse so prepare yourself to stand for the duration of the performance. This is an interactive immersive experience as guests follow the actors from set to set. You will laugh, have a fright or two, and be amazed by this performance. “The Sleepy Hollow Experience” is the perfect setting for a fall themed date night, a family-friendly adventure, or a night out with friends.

Not able to attend “The Sleepy Hollow Experience” this Fall? Serenbe Playhouse offers a variety of productions throughout the year.  We can’t wait to purchase our 2018 season passes to experience their other offerings (especially the Snow Queen in December).

Grab your tickets fast before the remaining dates sell out. This is a MUST-SEE event and quite honestly is positively to become an annual tradition for our team.  Visit their website for more information and to purchase your tickets.
