Could you survive a zombie apocalypse while walking through your favorite haunted attraction? Our team ventured out to enjoy the Zombie Apocalypse Live special event (June 16-19th) at Netherworld Haunted House.
Driving the winding path to Netherworld in June provides the exact excitement as it does in October. There’s something mysterious in the air and the adrenaline rush is thrilling! Our team split up in shifts to enjoy this experience and while our journeys were a bit different, our opinions were the same.
What is Zombie Apocalypse Live?
“Zombie Rampage Live is a live action, video-game like zombie shooting experience. You and your team will use infrared military training replicas to clear apocalyptic and infested areas where the undead have invaded. The zombies will be wearing cutting-edge head shot targets that will flash to indicate a hit. Beware! Some zombies may need to be hit more than once to be taken down! Wearing your end of the world clothing and gear is encouraged as is listening closely to your orders; your survival may depend on it. You will be immersed in an apocalyptic world where survival is your only goal.” -For more information visit http://zombieapocalypselive.com/netherworld/
Our adventures to Zombie Apocalypse Live were overall really fun. The $30 price tag scared off a few of our friends we were hoping would join us (for double ammo it’s $40). While we have only attended this one event which nationally tours the country and visits various haunted attractions, our advice is to not waste your money on the double ammo. For this experience, we barely touched the regular ammo we had–seriously, zombies died with one shot? Bummer.
Once we entered the queue we promptly signed our lives away with a waiver (in case of death…eek!) and then stepped up to retrieve our ammo. The laser gun was shockingly heavy but incredibly easy to use. We were then instructed on how to use our weapons and strictly told to not use the guns to strike the zombies in case we used up all of our ammo. Then our souvenir photo was taken and off we go! If you have had the opportunity to visit Netherworld during the normal haunt season run, you may recall how the queue is lightly but barely pulsed and you end up on top of the guests in front of you. This event was incredibly fun because essentially you have full reign of the downstairs haunt (Vault 13) to explore. Survivors are thrown into the Vault and instructed to kill all zombies and survive the attack. We LOVED how intense the setting is as Netherworld is one of the best in world for haunted attractions and being given the opportunity to see it in this element was spectacular. That said, we had more time to observe the set decoration as the zombies we encountered were really scattered. There was way too much dead space between each zombie “attack” and the zombies we approached died with the first shot. Only twice did the zombies come back to life and require multiple shots to be put down permanently. We were shocked approaching the half way point (this is where you are reloaded if you upgraded to double ammo) as has hardly used any of our ammo by this point. The second half was crazy intense and had a lot more to encounter. At this point we noticed a big difference as this time people were shouting at us to shoot! I never saw who was shouting we just heard people saying “Shoot here! Don’t miss this guy! Turn around they are coming after you!” This part was awesome but we zoomed through it and before we knew it, were exiting through the “foam” exit. I have to give kudos to the actors at the exit with chainsaws as I thought the experience was over just in time for them to give me one really good last scare! Bravo!!!
Overall, the Zombie Apocalypse Live was fun. While super short in length and just not enough zombies to shoot at, we are giving this experience 3 out of 5 skulls. This event is suitable for ages 13+ but please take our advice and BE THE LEADER. The first two people get all the good shots. Now channel Tallahassee, put away your twinkies, and kill those zombies. Don’t forget to double tap!
