Universal Orlando shocks fans with The Exorcist addition to #HHN26

For the first time ever, fans of Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights will be immersed in the frightening terrors of benchmark film, The Exorcist.

Very early in the year for announcements (we aren’t complaining!) and Universal Orlando has not slowed down the momentum by revealing another major horror film to this year’s lineup. Off the heels of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre announcement, the addition of The Exorcist is one that came as a huge surprise to fans. “I was shocked. As a kid there were two horror movies that really scared me, The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Both are being represented this year and I couldn’t be more excited” -super fan, Aaron Fultz stated.

Director of Creative Development, Michael Aiello describes his initial thoughts on screening the film. “Haunting. Shocking. Indelible.” Undoubtedly, one of the most iconic horror films created, the addition of The Exorcist provides the creative team with some difficult challenges. Most difficult? Creating an experience for guests with a film that takes place in a single bedroom.
“The answer we landed on was first to break down and assess all the visuals and moments from the film. Piece together every moment within that bedroom and examine why it was intense, scary or even vile. What textures can we reconstruct differently, sometimes in an incredibly abstract way?” Aiello continues, “The famous ‘pea soup’ scene for instance. What if we were surrounded in the materials of the retch-covered bed? What if those layers of mattress padding literally enveloped us? And let’s be honest, traversing through a vomit-covered bed is pretty horrifying and disgusting by itself. Now add a possessed girl into the mix!”

Allowing fans to be thrust into the middle of a demonic child’s possession is insane and quite frankly, something our team cannot wait to experience in person. One thing Universal is well known for is their incredible adaptations from film and tv. It will be a delight (albeit terrifying) to see how the creative team showcases their talent by allowing guests to experience an event many still have nightmares about.

Stay tuned to our blog for updates. Head over to our Facebook page and let us know your thoughts on this exciting announcement. For now, take a peek at the trailer, and prepare yourself. This is proving to be the year for Halloween Horror Nights 26!
