Each October, patrons visit their favorite local haunted attractions, seeking adrenaline induced scares that cannot be experienced outside of the season. The screams coming from inside these frightfully fun houses, hayrides, forests, and warehouses all over the country each year is big business. Bet you didn’t know, the owners and designers of these haunts begin planning the scares months, sometimes a full year before guests walk within their walls. On January 28, 2016, many traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to obtain inspiration, network with fellow haunters, and purchase new products at HAuNTcon aka the Haunted Attractions National Trade show and Convention.
The four day event, encompasses everything in the haunted house industry. Business seminars for those wanting to take their home haunt to the next level. Demonstrations of the newest products, and creative sessions for those in need of some inspiration for the entire staff of each haunt. Every aspect can be experienced, allowing owners the chance to enhance every detail within their attractions. There are seminars on marketing, social media, lighting, scare techniques, sound design and much more. For the creatives; a few hands on workshops are available for an additional fee to learn the newest techniques and other incredible skills that make the haunted house industry so unique.
When not attending classes, the trade show floor is open as vendors from all over the country showcase their newest creations and latest developments for haunters to experience and purchase to increase the level of scare. As each day winds down, guests of HAuNTcon are given the VIP treatment, exploring a fully functioning haunted house (or also known as October mode) each night to the Annual HAuNTcon Ball where attendees dress up in their favorite costumes and dance the night away.
